چکیده
There is a paucity of information on the reproductive biology guinea hens. A study was conducted to document postembryonic developmental changes in ovarian histology and associated progesterone 17β-oestradiol profiles until 32 weeks age (WOA). Highly significant increases (p<0.001) were noticed oocyte follicular diameters beyond 16 WOA. Other morphometric traits showed inconsistent The first phase yolk deposition occurred between hatching 20 WOA, second 26 third final 27 28 Peripheral concentrations increased from WOA it peaked at while peripheral fluctuated considerably during sexual development. Both oestradiol negatively moderately correlated (p<0.01) with nuclei diameter, granulosa theca layer heights. However, positively strongly diameters, concentrations. Three phases depositions found hen, terminating much smaller diameter than domestic chicken. Oestradiol might play role this species.

Sexing in guinea fowls (Numida meleagris).
Despite the potentials and contributions of guinea fowls to economic and social life in Ghana, accurate sex identification in these birds is still a major problem. Three hundred and sixty guinea fowls (180 birds per sex) were used in determining a more accurate and farmer friendly sexing technique. The sexing methods explored were vent, biometric, and molecular techniques. Vent sexing was accom...
متن کاملHistomorphology of Thymus Gland in Guinea Fowl (Numida meleagris)
The thymus gland is a lymphoid tissue derived from III and IV pharyngeal pouches. It is the source of stem cells that migrate to other lymphoid organs and participate in immune reactions (Kent, 1978). The thymus gland is regarded immunologically as a primary or central lymphoid organ and its presence is essential for the development of peripheral lymphoid tissues and their associated adaptive i...
متن کاملHaematological Changes in Guinea Fowls (Numida meleagris galeata, Pallas) Following Haemorrhage
Haematological changes associated with haemorrhage were determined in the guinea fowl (Numida meleagris galeata, Pallas). The red blood cell, packed cell volume and mean corpuscular haemoglobin decreased significantly (p<0.05) at 4 h posthaemorrhage and returned to normalcy one week after hemorrhage. After 4 h of hemorrhage, the haemoglobin concentration also fell significantly (p<0.05). The fa...
متن کاملEffects of load carrying on metabolic cost and hindlimb muscle dynamics in guinea fowl (Numida meleagris).
The goal of this study was to test whether the contractile patterns of two major hindlimb extensors of guinea fowl are altered by load-carrying exercise. We hypothesized that changes in contractile pattern, specifically a decrease in muscle shortening velocity or enhanced stretch activation, would result in a reduction in locomotor energy cost relative to the load carried. We also anticipated t...
متن کاملMechanical efficiency of limb swing during walking and running in guinea fowl (Numida meleagris).
Understanding the mechanical determinants of the energy cost of limb swing is crucial for refining our models of locomotor energetics, as well as improving treatments for those suffering from impaired limb-swing mechanics. In this study, we use guinea fowl (Numida meleagris) as a model to explore whether mechanical work at the joints explains limb-swing energy use by combining inverse dynamic m...
